Tell Me Something Good
Come on, it'll be fun.
Back in November (which truly seems like about twenty-five years ago) I came across a video of high school students sharing something good that happened to or for them that day. They were speaking into a microphone and being filmed for the video, and it was simply a delight to listen to each of them share what made them smile. Each good thing that was shared was as unique as the teens were, and there were “big” things and “small” things.
It was a nice reminder that, especially in an insane world like the one we’re residing in right now, it’s necessary to put a sharp focus on and feel gratitude for wonderful things that happen to us, for us, or because of us, as well as things that have nothing to do with us at all. It was also a nice reminder that listening to things that others are thankful for can make it a whole lot easier to feel thankful for what’s going on in our own lives, especially if we’re feeling a little blocked (or downright surly, as the case may be).
Currently my gratitude list for this week includes:
Sunday night’s group phone call with our two sons and their wives, along with my mom and sister. It’s hard to be on an eight-person call because of all the talking over each other alternating with awkward silences when everyone’s trying not to talk over each other, but I love those calls.
The warm-up we’re starting to see in Tennessee. It’ll be 71 degrees today and 60s/70s through Friday. Spring is definitely on its way, and I’m here for it!
McDonald’s French fries a couple of days ago. I don’t eat them often anymore, which means I enjoy them even more when I do.
Laughing like a complete maniac at a video my friend and her husband made of the reveal of portraits they painted of each other on Valentine’s Day. I have watched it multiple times: it makes me so happy.
The chocolate cheesecake I made. We ate some, put some in the freezer, and gave some to my mom and sister.
“Loot” (with Maya Rudolph) and “Your Friends and Neighbors” (with Jon Hamm): two shows that my husband and I are late to the party for (typical), but loving so much.
My hair appointment today. I love a visit to the salon.
I wrote something that I love for my original website and will publish it tomorrow.
Dinner with my sister on Thursday! We’ve made it a monthly(ish) habit and I appreciate the connection time immensely.
Our tax packet is all ready to get dropped off with our accountant. I created a very good (for me) system that keeps me organized throughout the year so that it only takes about thirty minutes to assemble everything she needs, and I love delivering it to her in the middle of February. It takes a huge load off of my mind.
What about you? Tell me something good!

You
i saw that original video of HS students -- complete joy, and proves we can find something good if we look hard enough. most days. some days. this day.
